Selling online can lower costs and open new markets to for female entrepreneurs. Exporting often brings new challenges, however. Even trade rules that don't explicitly discriminate can have unique effects on women-led e-commerce firms. Progress is being made in addressing gender issues in trade policymaking, but more can be done to better cover gender and the digital economy in trade agreements.

This is particularly relevant to lower-income economies, for which agriculture tends to account for a greater than average share of employment and output.
